【内容提要】在中国古代社会生活和民间风俗的研究中，人们较多注意的是微观的具象描述，相对忽略了角度的特征探究，而事实上，把握中国传统民俗的基本特点，却是我们透过纷繁复杂的表面现象去认识其深层结构和演进线索的一面透镜。本文揭示了制约中国民俗发展演变的四个基本特点，即原始信仰长期留存、宗法观念影响深远、民族和地区间存在明显差别、既一以贯之又不断变迁，论述了这些特点在传统民俗长期传承的过程中所起的重要作用，其影响时至今日仍不时地表现出来。错综复杂、丰富多采的中国民俗文化正是在这一框架中演绎出来的。
【英文摘要】in the studies of ancient social life and folk customs,students usually focus their attention on the discriptionofspecific objects but overlook the studies of their generalfeatures. in fact the studies of the foundamental features ofchinese traditional customs are important in grasping thedeep structures of the customs and their evolution throughthe seemingly complicated appearance of objects. this thesisreveals the four basic features of conditioning the evolutionof chinese folk customs: the retentions of the rpimitivebeliefs, the profound influences of patriarchal ideas, thedifferences existing in various races and regions and theircontinuity and changes. these features played and are playingimportant roles in the evolutionof chinese traditonal folkcustoms.

中国传统民俗作为中国传统文化的一个组成部分，是在中华民族特有的自然环境、经济方式、社会结构、政治制度等因素的制约下孕育、发生并传承的，因而中国传统民俗既有人类民俗的共性，又有不同于其他国家和民族的独特个性。分析和揭示中国传统民俗的基本特点是民俗文化研究的应有之举，其与各类具体事象的描述应是深入研究中国民俗相辅相成、不可或缺的两个方面。遗憾的是，近年来综合性的论述一直比较沉寂。本文意在引起人们对这方面研究的重视。综合考察中国民俗的传承、演变过程，可以发现以下几个特点表现得十分明显。
